Great News: We found a thoroughly enjoyable No Sulfites Added Red Wine! And almost in our backyard! This wine is indeed produced by Casa Barranca, an estate situated on a National Landmark near Ojai, California. We liked the rest of their line but for now, given the high interest in NSA wines, we were happy to snatch the last cases for you! This Syrah 2004 is a mouthful of fruits untamed by sulfites. Layers of flavors reveal themselves as you taste it, backed by a robust body and sustained by tannins which linger persuasively long enough on your buds. A great marriage of New World spirit and Old World knowledge brought together by a Canadian winemaker, Jean-Benoit. And the wine is biodynamic too which certainly enhances its character.
Continuing our discovery around California we have selected an interesting expression of Pinot Grigio 2005 from the Carneros region, an area of Napa Valley that is drawing more and more attention to itself. This one comes from Madonna Estate, owned and operated by the Bertolucci family, one of the pioneer vintners of the area. The wine displays an originality and a depth that only time can impart. An interesting find!
From New Zealand comes a new and surprising Sauvignon Blanc 2003 from Richmond Plains, a vineyard located on the Southern Island. Growing organically in this beautiful country seems well, natural! This wine explodes in a mouthful of citrus flavors bringing immediately to mind the nice fish "en sauce" or other fruits of the sea that it would perfectly complement!
From the Domaine de Bajac we just received the 2002 vintage of their classic Merlot, a mellow and tender guy that will gently keep you company until the end of your meal.
Another red wine from the South of France the 2004 Côtes-du-Rhône Domaine des Cèdres reminds us how blessed this region is to produce consistently satisfying wines year after year. The Syrah-Grenache-Carignane blend is a great combination for a food wine!
To complete the lot let's not forget the Domaine de Caillan Viognier 2004. This vintage does not present as much character of the Viognier grape as did the 2003 but will satisfy anyone looking for a light, fruity and easy going alternative to Chardonnay.
