Larry Walker Tasting Notes

Larry Walker's Comment

"The Organic Wine Company has consistently presented a range of outstanding wines.
For OGW, quality has always been the key.  It was never enough that the wine just be organic.

It had to be organic and good.

On the whole, I would recommend their wines without reservation."

Tasting Notes

White Wines

Domaine La Batteuse Chardonnay 2005

Pleasing tartness on the opening with lemony fruit and good acidity right through the palate.
The finish is medium weight and fairly long with a snappy minerally bite.

Domaine Delmas Limoux Chardonnay 2002

A creamy rather complex wine, with layers of deep flavors and a long finish.
Good balance right through.

Borgo Faveri Perlage Pinot Grigio 2005

A charming and pretty wine with enticing floral aromas. Terrific as an aperitif or with a grilled fish.

Domaine de Clairac Marsanne 2003

A complex wine with layered flavors, balanced and spicy with touches of white pepper leading to a long finish with echoes of the opening fruit. An outstanding example of Marsanne.

Château Haut Mallet, Bordeaux Haut Benauge White 2005

Simply a lovely wine, elegant and stylish with bright focused fruit. The mouthfeel is rich and layered, leading to a long wraparound finish.

Red Wines

Côtes du Ventoux Rhône 2004

Refreshing and zesty on the palate with good acidic balance. Splendid everyday wine.

Domaine de Bajac Merlot 2002

Earthy and inviting with bright red cherry fruit. What I call a first class elbow bender!

Domaine Pouizin, Côtes-du-Rhône Villages 2005

Quite a charming wine with a silky texture and lively fruit right through to the long finish.

Château Véronique, Coteaux du Languedoc 2003

A powerful rich wine, reminiscent of the better California cult wines, but at
a fraction of the California price. It is drinking very well now but will
also age for I would guess up to a decade.

Château Bousquette St Chinian Tradition 2003

Classic dark fruit with good balance and structure. The finish is long and layered, with opening fruit looping back at the end. A very good wine to drink now, should improve in the bottle over the next five to eight years.

Château Bousquette St Chinian Prestige 2003

Lovely wine, elegant nod balanced with a long firm finish. A wine to linger over and enjoy now and for the next several years. Outstanding.

Mas de Janiny Cabernet Sauvignon 2003

A well balanced wine with bright fruit tending toward black cherry. Good bite on the finish, which is long and layered.

Château Haut Mallet Bordeaux Supérieur 2004

Classic Bordeaux, which means this is a balanced and complex wine with layers of flavors, a touch of spice and a long finish. A good wine on the dinner table or just about any time. Another glass, please!

Château Romanin, Les Baux de Provence 2002

A big wine with concentration and power and a sharp tannic bite. The nose is
all spice and earth tones with a generous serving of Garrigue. It’s a powerful statement, for sure.

Guy Chaumont Côte Chalonnaise, Pinot Noir 2004

A very pretty and pleasing wine, with refreshing fruit and a good minerally bite.
Very pretty wine with pleasing and refreshing fruit.
