The vineyards of Château Bousquette, a 50 acre family estate, drape over the craggy hillsides of a small town called Cessenon, only 30 miles inland from the Mediterranean in the South of France. "Bousquette" (pronounced boo-sket) in French means thicket or grove. The word aptly describes the property: a simple family estate nestled in pine trees, lavender and thyme, overlooking miles of vineyards stretching all the way to the foot of the volcanic mountains, the Cévennes.

The vineyards are moderated by the cooling breezes from the sea, giving the grapes a long, even growing season. After a 10 day maceration period, the new wine is racked and pressed into large barrels and aged for about 18 months. The result is a dry, Rhône-style wine that is typical of southern France. Aromas of berry, leather and spice. Very smooth and mouth-filling flavors of ripe plums and black cherry fruit. Warm tannins and a lingering, smooth finish.

AOC Saint-Chinian; 35% Grenache, 30% Carignan, 20% Syrah, 15% Mourvedre.

Alcohol Content: 14%

Cuvée Cinq Filles -- This fruity, spicy red wine is grown just west of the ancient city of Beziers, in the Languedoc region of southern France. Francoise Jougla, the owner of Domaine de Clairac, and her father Claude, have been involved in French organic viticulture since its rebirth during the 1960s. Their expertise in the field is widely respected throughout France. The health and richness of their wines, and the vines where they come from, reflect the decades of biological activity maintained in their soils. Francoise has been managing the family estate and all winemaking with a palate educated since childhood. The 2003 vintage is a blend of 70% Grenache, 10% each Syrah, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The Grenache expresses much of the flavor and body common to Languedoc red wines. Merlot and Cabernet add finesse and ripe fruit flavors. The result is a very robust and drinkable wine with an aromatic nose and spicy, fruity taste. It is a good wine for any lighter meat or cheese dishes as well . . .

Bodegas Navarrsotillo -- Made from a special selection of older vines and matured in american and french oak for 4-6 mos, this wine displays deep cherry hues with hints of burgundy. A complex aroma of red fruits with a bit of licorice influence from oak aging, it is excellent and smooth on the palate. A more serious red than the younger and simpler Noemus from this pioneer organic winery in Rioja. Spain deserves some recognition for a long tradition of heart warming wines now elaborated in high tech facilities. The result is convincing. If you have a chance, go visit the Bodegas Navarsotillo, you will be greeted by big smiles and open hearts, and ...lots of wines to taste! Seductive! -- Domaine Pouizin is located in the village of Visan in France's Southern Rhône Valley. Often called a "Blessed Region," the Rhône Valley has an ideal climate for grape growing. The vineyards feature several plots on hillsides which have a stony, clayey and calcareous soil which are friendly to vines and little else. The stones absorb the hot summer sun and then reflect warmth onto the vines at night. The climate is mediterranean, although the Mistral, a cold northerly wind that can endure for days on end, is a feature of the Southern Rhône. The dry Mistral winds, however, minimize vine disease and dry out the vineyard if hit with summer rains.Great food wine! Still young and with dry tannins, it has a real potential that will develop and soften over the next few years. A great buy! A.O.C.
